Hi everyone! Welcome to Nox the Reader, I'm Nox, and today I'm talking about the different book communities and groups that I'm grateful for.
I've never been quiet about how much I struggle to make friends. It's never been easy for me, and usually ends up with me awkwardly acting like:
1. Book Bloggers Group
When I first started blogging under Nox Reads, I joined a Twitter engagement group for book bloggers. I'm not the best when it comes to group chats, so I kinda just lurked in the background, but it's where I first found Kait from Six Crows Books, my first book blogger friend. I always love seeing their tweets and fun moments like the Great Grilled Cheese Scandal of 2019, where they thought it was okay to make a grilled cheese with KRAFT SINGLES. We adore them, even if they have terrible taste in cheese.
2. nik nak
nik nak was the first group that I ever felt comfortable with. I joined them for a buddy read of King of Scars (which is funny considering we never really got around to King of Scars) and I ended up becoming friends with this group of really amazing people. Most of us were able to meet up for Yallwest, and I'm really grateful that I had the chance to meet them. And if you've ever watched one of my videos, you know I talk about Jules (my platonic soulmate) and Jessica a lot. While I'm not really part of nik nak anymore (as previously stated, I suck at group chats, especially large ones), I'm super grateful for them for being the best friends I could've asked for in a really difficult time for me mentally. They're also the ones who encouraged me to start my channel, and I seriously wouldn't be anywhere close to where I am if it wasn't for them. So thank you nik nak, I love you all so much.
3. Papercut Book Club
I started watching the Papercut Book Club streams because I love watching Read With Cindy's videos. The first stream that I tuned into was the one for Sorcery of Thorns last year, and I've been participating since! I've made a lot of new friends through Papercut, and even more friends through the ones I made! I don't think I'd have known them if I hadn't started watching the live shows, and they're also just something really fun to do!
4. Con Sabor
And of course, we have Con Sabor. I'm so glad that I met Astrid, Dani, and Natalia, and even gladder that they let me come along with them with Con Sabor. This challenge has been one of the coolest things that I've ever had the chance to be a part of. We started live shows discussing buddy reads, we hosted an official Latinx meet up for a book festival, and even joined a street team! Con Sabor has taught me a lot about my identity, how to make friends, and most importantly, how to be willing to shoot my shot because I never know what's going to happen. Besides the amazing opportunities that I've had with the other Con Sabor hosts, I've made even more friends through the buddy reads. Most of all, I've found a community that I feel accepted and welcomed in.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you so much to all of the communities I've been able to join, and to all of the friends I've been able to make. I'm grateful for all of you, more than you'll know.
Thanks for reading!
~ Nox
