Neil Gaiman's Stardust is the Best Kind of Ridiculous | Book Ramble

Welcome to Nox the Reader, I'm Nox, and I really  want to talk about Neil Gaiman's Stardust, which I feel is a give me ALL the merch! "Every lover is, in his heart, a madman, and, in his head, a minstrel." Some of you may remember the movie Stardust from 2007, which for some reason gets lost in my memory alongside the boring, terrible, why did I ever watch that movie adaptation of The Golden Compass. Gramps was flipping through the movie channels a few weeks ago and we caught the last thirty minutes of this movie that I had a vague recollection of, and I absolutely loved  those last thirty minutes (which had a lot to do with the overall quality and Claire Danes' speech at the end but also so  much to do with Tristan being played by a young Daredevil...) . So naturally, I had to pick up the book! Stardust was a bit of a ride for me. It's a short read, a bit more than 200 pages, and it starts off heavily with exposition surrounding the town of Wall a...

Dorothy thinks that her life is normal, with the exception of having a mother who is dying from liver cancer. Everything seems normal until Dorothy has a weird encounter at a club, and then a new boy, Adrian, shows up at her school. The opening scene definitely gives off  City of Bones  vibes, when Clary and Simon go to Pandemonium, but instead, it's...

Book Ramble - Illuminae

Hi everyone! I'm back from taking a mental health break! Welcome to Nox Reads, I'm "Nox", and  Illuminae  by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff is one of my favorite series, definitely a  GET ME ALL THE MERCH! "I don't know my limit, but I'm scared to reach it. I don't know what will happen if I do. And I still can't sleep." TRIGGER WARNING: Death Illuminae was definitely a series that I picked up because of the book community. I heard a lot about the interesting format and it made me want to check it out, and I am so glad that I did because it quickly became one of my favorite series. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- S P O I L E R - F R E E  T A L K  My favorite part of  Illuminae  is the characters. Our two main protagonists are Kady Grant and Ezra Mason, two teenagers who broke up hours before their planet was attacked by a corporation know...

Book Ramble - The Raven King

Hi everyone! Welcome to Nox Reads, I'm "Nox", and  I was not ready for the Raven Cycle to end!  This is my book ramble for the last book of the series,  The Raven King , which, like the rest of the series, is 100% a  GET ME ALL THE MERCH! "He was a book, and he was holding his final pages, and he wanted to get to the end to find out how it went, and he didn't want it to be over." TRIGGER WARNING: Deaths, demons, violence Songs I Listened to While Writing:  Give Me Love by Ed Sheeran; Say No to This by Jasmine Cephas-Jones and Lin Manuel Miranda -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- S P O I L E R - F R E E  T A L K  (if you've read the previous three books) I picked that quote because that's  exactly how I felt going into this book!  I was not ready for the Raven Cycle to end. In the course of four books, I had become emotionally and mentally inve...

Book Ramble - Hunting Prince Dracula

Hi everyone! Welcome to Nox Reads, I'm "Nox", and this is my book ramble for  Hunting Prince Dracula  by Kerri Maniscalco, which I'm rating as a  GET ME ALL THE MERCH! "I needed to heal myself before I could address anything or anyone else." TRIGGER WARNING: Lots of gore and death; vivid descriptions of murder victims If you didn't know,  Hunting Prince Dracula  is the sequel to  Stalking Jack the Ripper , which I have a  book ramble for here!  While each book has different mysteries that don't interconnect, there are mentions of the effects that the previous case still has on Audrey Rose. So yes, this can be read without reading the first book, but I personally recommend reading this after. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- S P O I L E R - F R E E  T A L K Alright, I have a confession to make: Thomas Cresswell may be warming up to me. ...

Book Ramble - Stalking Jack the Ripper

Hi everyone! Welcome to Nox Reads, I'm "Nox", and this is my book ramble about  Stalking Jack the Ripper  by Kerri Maniscalco, which much to my surprise I have rated a  GET ME ALL THE MERCH! "I was determined to be both pretty and fierce, as Mother said I could be. Just because I was interested in a man's job didn't mean I had to give up being girly. Who defined those roles anyhow?" TRIGGER WARNING:  This book has a lot of mentions about death, autopsies, and gruesome murders. The way that the victims are found is incredibly detailed and gory. There is also mentions of drug addiction, poor prison conditions, and experimenting on people. Book Ramble - A Study in Charlotte

Hi everyone! Welcome to Nox Reads, I'm "Nox", and this is my book ramble about  A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro!  I am rating this a  GET ME ALL THE MERCH! "The two of us, we're the best kind of disaster. Apples and oranges. Well, more like apples and machetes." TRIGGER WARNING:  This book has mentions of r***, drug use, and murder. While there aren't explicit scenes detailing the first trigger, there is a character who struggles with the aftermath of it. One of the characters uses drugs and it's mentioned quite a bit in the story, and the murder is a large part of the story, and told in detail. Song I Listened to While Writing:  Hey Look Ma, I Made It by Panic! At The Disco -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- S P O I L E R - F R E E  T A L K  I've wanted to read this book for a long time.
