Kingdom Cold Book Tag! - #kingdomcoldtour

Hi everyone! Welcome to Nox Reads, I'm "Nox", and today's post is an original book tag inspired by Kingdom Cold by Brittni Chenelle!

I've been lucky enough to be a part of the Kingdom Cold Blog Tour (#kingdomcoldtour on Twitter)! There are going to be numerous creative feature posts that I can't wait to see. Shealea from Shut Up Shealea posted the launch post, which has links to each blogger participating. For my creative feature, I've created an original book tag, and at the end of the post I will be linking a playlist inspired by Kingdom Cold! I kept all of the references in this to the first chapter or the synopsis in order to avoid spoilers, so don't worry if you haven't read this yet, everything is reserved to chapter one. Let's begin!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. "Dying wasn't my intention." - Ominous/Memorable First Lines
Right when I opened the book, I was hooked, and that's because of this one first line: "Dying wasn't my intention."

My pick for a memorable first line has to go to Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan. I was so happy to see that the chapter titles were back, and then I'm greeted by this gem - "Yeah I know. You guys are going to read about how I died in agony, and you're going to be like, 'Wow! That sounds cool, Magnus! Can I die in agony too?"

2. Charlotte - Characters That Had to Grow Up Too Fast
Charlotte is forced into an arranged marriage at only 16 years old, clearly having to grow up faster than she should need to.

My pick for characters that had to grow up too fast goes to all of the main Dregs from Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. The youngest is sixteen, the oldest is eighteen, and they've all been through a lot (understatement of the year), and should have had more time to grow up.

3. Queen of Besmium -  Royal Parents That Don't Understand
The Queen has just resigned herself to this marriage - Charlotte is clearly against it but her mother won't budge.

For this question, I'm picking Maxim and Emira Maresh, from the A Darker Shade of Magic trilogy. As much as they love their sons, they don't really understand either one, and their treatment of Kell in A Gathering of Shadows almost broke me. They were redeemed (well, mainly Emira) in A Conjuring of Light though, and now I have to read The Steel Prince.

4. Milly - Bookish Character You'd Go to For Advice
Milly is Charlotte's go-to person for advice, even if she's a bit younger.

(Can somebody please write a book about the guys from Queer Eye so I can say them? Fab Five please help me) My answer to this is going to be

5. Prince Young - "Enemy" Character You Ship With Their Protagonist
Prince Young is the prince that Charlotte is betrothed to.

(They made books based on this so it counts) I'm picking Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender. He starts off as a villain, and although I love Aang and Katara's relationship, I can't deny that he and Katara had chemistry.

6. "...for kings bow to no one but the daughters they love." - Loving Parent/Child Relationships
I love this quote and had to include it.

Would it be a Nox Reads post if I didn't mention the Raven Cycle series? Maura and Blue have one of the healthiest relationships that I have ever read in a YA book, and I love them so much.

7. Love - Favorite Love Tropes
Love is one of the themes of Kingdom Cold.

This isn't necessarily my favorite, but I love when enemies to lovers is done well. To be honest, the best examples I've seen of it is usually in fanfiction, but I still love it.

8. Kingdom or Heart - Which Would You Save?
Charlotte has to choose between what's best for her kingdom and what's best for her heart. Could you decide?

I'm choosing my heart because I'm selfish because everything I do is usually ruled by emotion instead of logic. Without my heart, I don't know who I would be.

9. Alliance - Tag someone to do this tag!
Charlotte's marriage is meant to be an alliance...

For this, I'm tagging my friends from nik nak! I hope you all do this.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I said, this tag is part of the Kingdom Cold blog tour! Please check out the book, and if you go on Amazon this week, the book is discounted!

I promised earlier that I would post the link to the Kingdom Cold playlist, so here it is! I hope you check it out, and please go read Kingdom Cold!

Have a great day!

A Guide to Anti-Racist Resources | #blacklivesmatter #sayhisname

Hi everyone. Welcome to Nox the Reader, and today I'm sharing a compiled list of different anti-racist resources that I've seen shared on Bookstagram and Twitter. Please note: THIS LIST IS EVER-EVOLVING AND EXPANDING. AS I GATHER MORE INFORMATION, I WILL BE ADDING IT TO THIS GUIDE. IF THERE'S ANYTHING YOU FEEL I SHOULD ADD, PLEASE DM ME ON TWITTER @nox_reads, OR COMMENT DOWN BELOW. Before I share this list, all I want to say is that I'm mad as hell and I'm tired. My dad always shared stories about living in Inglewood in the 90s during the time of Rodney King and the LA Riots. And it's almost 30 years later and nothing has changed. I've grown up surrounded by names as hashtags and videos cycled through the media and it's infuriating  and heartbreaking and exhausting . And a lot of us are wondering what to do, how to break this system and burn it to the ground. And it starts with educating ourselves and uplifting the voices of others. In this list are book

Book Ramble - One of Us is Lying

Hi everyone! Welcome to Nox Reads, I'm "Nox", and this is my book ramble for  One of Us is Lying  by Karen M. McManus, a solid  PROBABLY WON'T REREAD.  "That's the kind of person you can get away with killing: someone everyone else wants dead." TRIGGER WARNING: Death, alcohol, drugs, mentions of suicide -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- S P O I L E R - F R E E  T A L K  Right off the bat, I have to say: I  had  to read this book. It's the Breakfast Club with a murder in it, how could I not? And of course, they make a joke about it in the book (Simon saying that they're all walking 80's movies stereotypes). It was such an interesting concept to me, a combination of some of my favorite things: retellings, mystery, and murder (in  stories . Obviously I do not condone actually murder.  Please don't murder people. This has been a PSA. ) S
